Book Review - Miracle Man

About the Book
The Miracle Man (O-Books) by Maggy Whitehouse is a story that follows two years in the life of a present-day Messiah who gets to be a judge on a tremendously popular TV talent show, and whose private life becomes public overnight as his every action makes headlines in newspapers, television and the internet; highlighting his miraculous healing powers that can wipe out drugs, alcoholism – just about any of the addictions that run rife in today’s lifestyles.

Since reality shows draw high ratings nowadays, one can envision the questions the public would ask.  Would he be a wealthy TV megastar?  Would he appear in Las Vegas rather than Jerusalem?  Would he be a Jew or a Christian?  One thing is for sure – sparks would fly if Christ got put in the spotlight of mainstream media.

It was a late night supper with friends that spawned the idea for The Miracle Man.  A comment from a guest that ‘people think Simon Cowell is Christ’ had this talented author speculating ‘and what if he was?’  She loved the idea that she could rewrite the characters of the Gospels, showing all the miracles that Jesus performed from a 2lst century viewpoint, healing all the addictions and woes that plague society today.

In Maggy’s story, Josh Goldstone becomes the new Messiah after he survives an accident that kills his wife, a TV celebrity judge, when their car crashes into a lake in Nevada.  Josh goes missing – only to emerge transformed from the desert forty days later.  As he takes over his wife’s old position, he gets instantly launched into a celebrity-driven world where the demons that need to be exorcised are almost always the contestants!

Josh is adored by the masses as he heals their physical and emotional ailments but is hated by fundamental Christians who see him as a threat to their faith, as well as being a threat to the economy when people no longer need drugs, alcohol or tobacco when their hearts and minds are healed.

When the new Messiah becomes involved in politics and joins forces with the Dalai Lama to inspire a celebrity-led, peaceful liberation of Tibet and accomplishes an astonishing shift in Chinese policy – he now becomes a threat to the whole world order.  When his female PR guru proposes to stage his assassination live on air, believing he will rise once again and confident she will have pulled off the publicity stunt of the year, will she be right…or wrong?

My Take on the Book
If you have ever wondered what it would be like to walk in the shoes of a moden day Messiah. This book takes a look at this and as a reader is brought along you are taken on a jouney you will not forget. The Messiah is tempted and is given the opportunity to achieve and change the world, but will he?

The book was an engaging and easy read, and one that kept me reading from page one. I found myself wanting to know wat would happen to this Messiah and what choices he would make next!

If this book sounds like one that you would like in your own library you can find it on Amazon!
