“I just tried to think outside the box,” commented TobyMac on the creative process behind the project. “It’s difficult at first to imagine some of these songs with a modern beat, but I think Christmas is about celebration and come on, on the inside everyone wants to dance. It has a bit of everything- six songs are my artistry: an eclectic blend of Christmas classics and originals. The other seven tracks are my amazing band’s (Diverse City) individual artistic efforts. I love it.”

My Take on the CD
Tobymac has created a Christmas CD like no other CD I have listened to.

He used many familiar songs and included some new Christmas songs. The songs are upbeat and often have a rap rhythm to them. The arrangements are creatively done with excellent vocalists and instrumental support.
My favorite song on this CD was the arrangement of ANGELS WE HAVE HEARD ON HIGH. This traditional song was done beautifully with a different twist to it.

If you are looking for a Christmas CD that has a different flair and very contemporary, I am confident you will find this one by Tobymac a good inclusion to your collection.

Book Review - Stop Calling Him Honey... and Start Having Sex

About the Book
Unlike so many relationship authors, Davis and Arana have actually been in this situation and that is why they wanted to write this book – to share with the millions of women who might have lost the desire to have sex with their spouse that it’s not that difficult to get that spark back. Sex is the glue that keeps a relationship solid and, without it, even if you are best friends, good parents and a great team - if you’re living like roommates, your relationship is at risk from failure.

Challenging the status quo, Arana and Davis have found that it’s the everyday things we say and do that can sabotage our sexual chemistry - something that all of the other self-help books seem to have overlooked. While other books recommend date nights and sexy lingerie, Stop Calling Him Honey…and Start Having Sex! looks at the subtle and powerful ways we dull our desire for each other and offers groundbreaking advice to solve this too-common dilemma:

  • How terms of endearment can hinder your sexuality
  • How sharing everything including bathroom habits is not good for a relationship
  • Why couples need to argue more, not less, and the best ways to do it
  • How maintaining a sense of separation will keep you both together
  • Why feeling sexy doesn’t hinge on having the perfect body but rather on how a woman feels about herself and how she projects those feelings to her partner.

Finally a sex self-help book that is revolutionary, humorous, easy-to-read and inspiring – with practical advice that gets to the core of why your sexual desire diminished in the first place and how to get it back easily and permanently.

About the Authors

Maggie Arana was in a sexless relationship for many years and her story gives her a unique personal insight on why the "roommate syndrome" is so common with couples, and what you can do to change it. Maggie is a UCLA graduate in English Literature (summa cum laude) and has written for various publications throughout the years, including Music Connection and the former BAM Magazine. She also has many years of experience in public relations. Margaret is in a happy, long-term relationship and does not call her guy “honey.” She lives in Los Angeles.

Julienne Davis is an international model, singer/musician and actress, having played the pivotal role of Mandy Curran in Stanley Kubrick’s psychological thriller Eyes Wide Shut. Her career has enabled her to travel the world and live and work in many cities, from New York to London, Paris to Milan. Julienne and “non-honey” husband, a renowned English DJ and writer/journalist, live in Los Angeles in a midcentury modern home that they lovingly restored over a two-year period.

My Take on the Book
Though this book is written for women, as a husband I can say that there are definitely some aspects that can be used from men here toward women as well. The book did have some great ideas that I enjoyed reading. I particularly enjoyed the fact that it was filled with personal stories. I also liked the humor that was interspersed through the book. Though they do use humor to get their point across, their message was strong and important. I believe that the 10 Couple Commandments say it all... Well Written, and now I will go and share this with my wife and see what she thinks!

Book Review - The Rock & Roll Alphabet

About the Book
For pint-size rockers and music fans of all ages, The Rock and Roll Alphabet, by music historian and teacher Jeffrey Schwartz, is a unique and entertaining teaching tool that allows children to develop alphabet skills while learning about rock and roll legends of the 1960’s and 1970’s. Blending melodic rhymes with rare images of rock’s most influential figures, this unique children’s art and photography book reinforces alphabet skills to young children and also serves as an introduction to rock and roll history for older children.

Using an engaging and entertaining format of rhyming couplets, The Rock and Roll Alphabet offers a fun and artistic education in rock history through the lens of iconic photographer Chuck Boyd. This unique piece of music history features:
  • Thirty vintage photographs from the archives of the Chuck Boyd Photo Collection – mostof which have never before been seen by the public
  • Rare images of rock legends such as The Beatles, Ike and Tina, James Brown, Queen, Frank Zappa and many more
  • A poetic rhyme scheme offering a fun and educational way to reinforce alphabet familiarity and introduce young ones to some of Rock ‘n’ Roll's greatest
  • Little nuggets of music history about each performer

“Through this book, I hope to re-introduce a whole new generation to these iconic bands and honor Boyd’s legacy as a rock photographer,” says Schwartz. “The book can be enjoyed by music fans of all ages and offers a new and fun way to reinforce alphabet skills, learn about music, and help create meaningful interactions between grandparents, parents, and children.” Jeffery Schwartz is the Director of the Chuck Boyd Photo Collection, a recently rediscovered archive of 30,000 photographs of rock and roll legends from the 1960’s and 1970’s. Boyd’s unique access to rock’s greatest stars yielded thousands of incredible images of The Beatles, Bob Dylan, The Grateful Dead, James Brown, Jimi Hendrix, KISS, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, The Who and others.

“Chuck's vantage point was pretty remarkable," adds Schwartz. "There's a lot of rock 'n' roll photographers, but few who have had his access. When Chuck was with the band, he truly was. You see that in his work, and especially so in the photographs that have been chosen for this book."

Boyd passed away in 1991, leaving behind a collection of largely unpublished, never-before seen photographs. Over 30 of these largely unpublished images are being presented to the public for the first time in The Rock and Roll Alphabet, ensuring the appeal of this title for many generations to come.

About the Author
Schwartz has been passionate about music from an early age, playing piano, guitar, and singing throughout his childhood. Earning his bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he studied jazz with renowned bassist Richard Davis. He also holds a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Schwartz is an award-winning Social Studies teacher in Los Angeles, CA teaching U.S. history and a very successful ‘Rock & Roll History’ course he developed for middle school and high school students. He currently works as a music historian and the Director for The Chuck Boyd Photo Collection.

In 2008, Lance Armstrong and the LIVESTRONG foundation awarded Schwartz the ‘LIVESTRONG Award’ for the programs that he developed in support of students and families battling cancer in Southern California.

For more information about the author, please visit www.therockandrollalphabet.com. More information about the Chuck Boyd Photo Collection is available at www.chuckboydgalleries.com. The Rock and Roll Alphabet can be purchased at www.amazon.com

My Take on the Book
Full of amazing photos by Chuck Boyd, this book takes all Rock and Roll Music fans on a journey (from A-Z) on getting to know these particular Rock Stars! The only thing that I wished was that the book was longer as this book is but a picture book, but it does make its point. The book shares some great talent with young kids and any rock and roll fan will love to share this with their children or even grandchildren!

My Take on the Book
This book was a bit hard for me to get into, as the style of writing was a bit hard to follow and the interior font choice was a bit difficult to get used to. That being said, as I actually get into the story itself it was fun and I enjoyed what I was reading. The idea of the mystery laid out in the book was clever and the mixture of writing style techniques actually led to the overall suspense that you feel when reading the book and anticipating the conclusion. So all-in-all, not a bad book, though I think it might have been stronger if it had been formatted a bit different on the inside.

Book Review - Antiquitas Lost

About the Book

From American cardiologist Robert Louis Smith comes the unique fantasy novel Antiquitas Lost, peppered with more than 70 eye-popping illustrations by Marvel Comics legend Geof Isherwood. This epic fantasy tells the story of a 15 year old boy named Elliott, a bullied kid with deformities on his hands and feet who is uprooted from his home after his mother falls gravely ill. When they move to New Orleans so his grandfather can help care for her, Elliott learns that the old man's eighteenth century mansion hides an ancient secret. From a dungeon-like basement far beneath the estate, Elliott strays through an ancient doorway into Pangrelor, a tumultuous parallel world full of bizarre creatures and warring races. Unable to return home, he discovers wondrous abilities he never dreamed he possessed, and an abiding connection to the primitive, alien world that will forever change him.
But he must proceed carefully. For he soon learns that his actions in the ancient world will impact the upcoming battle for Harwelden, Pangrelor's mightiest civilization, and will also resonate all the way back to New Orleans, perhaps deciding whether his mother lives or dies.

About the Author

Robert Louis Smith, author of Antiquitas Lost: The Last of the Shamalans, has numerous degrees, including psychology (B.A.), applied microbiology (B.S.), anaerobic microbiology (M.Sc.), and a Medical Doctorate (M.D.). My Take on the Book
This book was full of amazing illustrations and I came to find that the illustrator was the same person that I have seen in some of the comics that I have read in the past. The story itself was richly designed and the author takes meticulous steps to create a world that engrosses you and keeps you on the edge of your seat. If you like fantasy and books like the Lord of the Rings, you will love this. One of the in things in the book was the fact that the author holds back some very important clues in the story until the very end (I won't spoil the surprise), so it will keep you guessing and wondering until the very end! A great book for any fantasy lover!

Combat Sore Throats with New Drops and ‘Pops’

About the Product
Chloraseptic, the #1 pharmacist-recommended brand for sore throat relief, is expanding its line to include new offerings just in time for the winter cold season. New Warming Sore Throat Lozenges and Sore Throat Lollipops are the latest additions to the leading Chloraseptic line of throat pain relief staples.

Chloraseptic Warming Sore Throat Lozenges, which soothe throats with a warming sensation, are available in Green Tea and Honey Lemon flavors. A number of doctors have long recommended the use of warm beverages, such as tea with honey, as the heat may help decrease throat irritation*, and these lozenges can have a similar effect. In addition to the warming ingredients, the new formula contains real honey and more benzocaine, which helps reduce the pain and temporarily relieve irritation.

Kid-friendly Chloraseptic Medicated Sore Throat Lollipops have a great-tasting formula with a variety of flavors including grape, strawberry and orange. Designed for children over age three, the formula provides fast-acting relief as it soothes sore throat and mouth pain on contact in a way that is appealing to children. The Sore Throat Lollipops are available in a 10 count box of individually wrapped pops.

“We’re constantly looking for innovative ways to provide our consumers with quick and soothing relief for their sore throat pain,” said Jean Boyko, PhD., Senior Vice President, Science & Technology for Prestige Brands, Inc., maker of Chloraseptic products. “For children and parents, our new Chloraseptic lollipops are the perfect solution to help with sore throat pain simply. Our innovative, new warming lozenges have the added consumer benefit of a comfortable, warm sensation to help ease sore throats,” she said.

The new Chloraseptic Sore Throat Lollipops have a suggested retail price of $3.99; the new Warming Sore Throat Lozenges are available in an 18-ct package for $3.99.

In addition to the new items, the Chloraseptic line also includes a variety of easy-to-use over-the-counter (OTC) products including great-tasting lozenges, throat sprays and convenient pocket packs as well. For more information, visit www.chloraseptic.com.

My Take on the Product
These two new products are great ones for the Chloraseptic line. We have used other Chloraseptic products in the past and they always seem to be very effective. That being said I was excited to try out these products. The warming action was an interesting concept as all of their others seem to have a cooling effect. In trying these, I found that they truly do warm your throat leaving your throat feeling great for a while and the warmth really lingers as well. The lollipops are a great concept as what child does not like lollipops. My daughters have sometimes been hesitant in the past to take medicine due to the taste. Chloraseptic has the right idea here making the medicine in a form that is fun for the kids while at the same time putting it in a flavor that they really enjoy as well. If you are looking for some great new products to help you this season in fighting sore throat symptoms, look no further!

Cheerios and the USO Team Up to Send Cheer to Military Families

Everyone can use a little pick me up now and then. But for the millions of military families manning the fort at home while their loved ones are away serving, a gesture of cheer is especially welcome. That’s because when America’s military is called to serve, their families must also rise to the challenge to help support our country. To show them that we care, Cheerios® and the USO have launched “Cheer,” a postcard campaign that spreads cheer directly to these honorable military families and supports USO programs.

Here’s how it works: During the months of October and November, 2011, specially-marked boxes of Cheerios cereal will feature Cheer postcards on the front of the box. Consumers can simply cut out the postcard, write a message of thanks on the back, add a stamp, and mail the pre-addressed card to the USO. The USO will deliver the Cheer card to military families across the country. For each postcard received, Cheerios will make a donation to the USO to help fund programs designed to support military families, up to a total maximum donation of $250,000 as detailed below. It’s a simple way to say thanks and lift the spirits of our country’s military families.

“Our military families support their loved ones when they are away and do double duty to keep things running smoothly at home. And they do it willingly, graciously and without fanfare,” said Meredith Tutterow, marketing manager, Cheerios. “General Mills has a long-standing commitment to supporting our troops and their families. The Cheer program lets them know that we recognize them and are grateful for all they give to our country.”

Supporting Military Families

There are more than 1.4 million active duty members in the U.S. military, and they are supported by more than 3.6 million family members. More than 70 percent of married service members have children under 12.

“The Cheer program offers an easy way for us all to touch the lives of military families. It’s a simple gesture, and a Cheer postcard will be a welcome reminder that others really care,” said Sloan Gibson, CEO and president of the USO. “We love this campaign because it gives cheerfulness directly to individuals while providing funds to support programs that will reach all of the people we serve.”

Timing and Donation Details

Specially marked Cheerios boxes will appear in stores from October through November, 2011. It’s easy to send Cheer:

1. Cut out the postcard found on the front of the box. The card has dotted cut-out lines around the “Cheer” in the Cheerios logo

2. Write a personal greeting - simple words of thanks, encouragement, good wishes - on the backside of the postcard

3. Add postage and drop the card in the mail. Postcards are pre-addressed to the USO. The USO will distribute the cards to military families.

Sending a Cheer postcard also triggers a donation to the USO. For each Cheer postcard received from specially marked packages through November 30, 2012, Cheerios will donate $1 to the USO. To kick off the campaign, Cheerios has already donated $150,000 to the USO and will donate up to an additional $100,000 based upon the number of postcards received. So, personal participation plays a big role in helping the program reach its goal.

There are so many individuals and families with loved ones in the military. To learn more about how to support them with the Cheer campaign, visit http://www.cheerios.com/.

AAA: Watch Your Step! Halloween Deadliest Night of the Year for Pedestrians

Every Halloween, monsters, zombies and ghouls fill the streets across the United States to celebrate. And if that’s not scary enough, AAA uncovered some frightening statistics. According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, October 31 is the deadliest night of the year for pedestrians.

“On Halloween, motorists need to be especially vigilant between the hours of 4 p.m. and midnight, when pedestrians are most vulnerable,” said Jennifer Huebner Davidson, AAA manager of traffic safety advocacy. “Slowing down, watching for trick-or-treaters who may cross between cars or mid-block and designating a sober driver may save a life.”

To help make the roadways safer this Halloween, AAA offers motorists a few easy tips:
  • Avoid neighborhood shortcuts. If possible, avoid cutting through residential streets where trick-or-treaters are likely to be present. When providing directions to a party, try not to route guests through neighborhoods unnecessarily.
  • Watch for children in the street. Watch for children walking on streets, medians and curbs. Excited trick-or-treaters, often in dark costumes, may not pay attention to traffic and cross mid-block or between parked cars.
  • Slow down. According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, a pedestrian is more than twice as likely to be killed if they’re hit by a car traveling at 35 mph compared to 25 mph.  What seems like a small difference—just 10 mph—can be the difference between life and death
  • Drive sober.  Alcohol-impaired drivers make up about one-third of all motor vehicle deaths resulting in an average of one death every 45 minutes. Always designate a sober driver if you plan to drink. Visit www.PreventDUI.AAA.com to learn more.
A few simple steps can help parents keep their trick-or-treaters safe, too:
  • Trick-or-Treat together.  AAA recommends that parents accompany young trick-or-treaters at least until the age of 12.

  • Make a plan. Review trick-or-treating safety precautions and plan the route ahead of time. Remind children never to cross the street mid-block or between parked cars.
  • Check costumes. Choose disguises that don't obstruct vision and opt for non-toxic face paint instead of masks. Check and adjust the length of costumes to avoid tripping and add reflective material or tape to keep kids visible.
  • Buckle up.  If driving trick-or-treaters between neighborhoods, always use appropriate car seats and have children exit and enter on the passenger side of the vehicle.
For additional tips to keep Halloween safe, including tips for parents and trick-or-treaters, visitAAA.com/PublicAffairs.

As North America's largest motoring and leisure travel organization, AAA provides more than 52 million members with travel, insurance, financial and automotive-related services. Since its founding in 1902, the not-for-profit, fully tax-paying AAA has been a leader and advocate for the safety and security of all travelers. AAA clubs can be visited on the Internet at AAA.com.

CD Review - Matthew West: The Heart of Christmas

From the Artist
"Since the beginning of my career, I've dreamed of making a Christmas album," says Matthew, "and I'm so excited to finally get that chance this year! The Heart of Christmas is a collection of original songs I've written, and some of my favorite classics. I was honored to have iconic artists like Amy Grant, Vince Gill, and Mandisa from American Idol join me on a few of the songs, and those are personal highlights for me."
"There's just something about Christmas music that can stir up the warmth, the emotion, and the joy of the season. I hope "The Heart of Christmas," can be one of those records people find themselves returning to year after year, and as they do, may they find their hearts returning to the true meaning of this wonderful season." - Matthew West

Product Description
Matthew West returns with his first-ever Christmas album, The Heart of Christmas. Even though this is Matthew's first Christmas album, several of these songs have already received significant airplay at Christian radio, including "One Last Christmas," "Give This Christmas Away," and "Christmas Makes Me Cry." Includes the new single "Heart of Christmas" and several other new songs, and traditional Christmas favorites such as "Silent Night," "Away In A Manger" and "Jingle Bells." This fall, Matthew's music will be featured prominently in an upcoming GMC film, which was inspired by the song "One Last Christmas" and the true story behind it.

My Take on the CD
First this is not your ordinary Christmas CD with the usual familiar songs that we have all enjoyed and sing along when we hear them.
This is a very special CD of not only familiar music but beautiful created songs that Matthew West wrote. Matthew often takes a familiar song and lends his own creative twist on it. You will enjoy what he has done.

I was captivated by his beautiful voice and the clearness of each song's lyrics. You will find it easy to sing along once you hear the refrains. Matthew has written songs that go right to your heart and soul . He deals with the Christian meaning of Christmas and what Jesus's entry into our world meant. Matthew helps us to remember how very fortunate we are to have family who are healthy in the song ONE LAST CHRISTMAS. He helps us remember that Christmas can last all year long as long as we are willing to love and give with a joyful heart.

Amy Grant , Vince Gill and Mandisa join him on this CD with their amazing voices.
This CD is truly a reason to celebrate this young man's creativity, love and thankfulness.

I encourage you to take a look at this CD for yourself.

Your entire family will certainly enjoy this CD. I plan to purchase several for Christmas gifts. Enjoy!

DVD Review - Thomas Kinkade presents Christmas Lodge

About the DVD
Thomas Kinkade presents Christmas Lodge: a place where a heart-warming past and loving future meet for one remarkable group of people. During a weekend trip to the mountains, Mary (Erin Karpluk) finds herself at the now- dilapidated lodge where she spent the holidays with her family growing up. She becomes determined to restore the building to its former glory. Inspired by her grandfather and guided by her grandmother in heaven, Mary throws herself into the project, and during the process finds herself drawn to Jack (Michael Shanks), a handsome man who loves the lodge as much as she does. Historically unlucky in love, this chance encounter allows Mary to renew her faith in life and discover her one true love. For an uplifting story about the importance of faith, family and the true holiday spirit, go to the Christmas Lodge.

My Take on the DVD

If you are searching for a new family Christmas movie, I encourage you to consider this one.
It is a movie that shows the importance of family and not giving up hope. It is a story about believing God has a plan and allowing Him into the lives of the characters to refurbish a lodge that has loving memories and to bring two families together.

The movie shows the importance of faith , hope ,love , truth, and perseverance. It encourages us all to use the scriptures of the Bible in our everyday life and to believe even in the midst of health and other challenges God is there.

It was interesting at the end of the movie, a family who is stranded due to a snowstorm arrives at the Christmas Lodge asking for shelter. Does that remind you of another special Christmas story?

I know you and your family will enjoy not only the story, but the beautiful scenery, and the development of the characters as the story progresses.

How to Keep Your Computer Safe from Halloween Related Viruses - tips for the family

With Halloween rapidly approaching, you may find the entire family spending more time online searching for last minute costume deals, party supplies and even seasonal-related downloads such as wallpapers, pumpkin carving stencils, emoticons, etc.

But, before ghostly spirits take over your computer, AVG Technologies, the online security company wants to remind parents that hackers are roaming the online superhighways and just as you wouldn’t allow your young children to trick-or-treat unsupervised, you also shouldn’t let them surf the Internet without any safety guidelines.

To help steer the entire family away from malicious links, viruses and hacks, AVG has listed a few of the popular schemes that can cause some real damage this All-Hallow’s Eve:

  1. BEWARE of ghostly attachments. E-cards, email invitations, and Halloween recipes may contain hidden links to rogue sites or embed dangerous malware (various types of trojans, worms, adware and other demons) into your computer. Teach your children to never respond to spam and to delete unwanted messages.
  2. Don’t open a portal to the other side. Steer clear of sites offering Halloween clip art, screensavers, or other downloadable holiday-themed content, like preassembled party playlists. These downloads could release dangerous code that can access your emails, social networks, etc.
  3. Lookout for scams. Some common scams that fool children are pop-up ads that: Claim to detect viruses on your personal computer and offer to clean them; Promise you can easily win great prizes; offer to speed up your PC.
  4. Last minute deals may be scary. There are numerous unsecure and malicious sites offering rush orders on costumes or decorations. Be sure the site is secure by looking for a closed padlock at the bottom of your screen and an “s” after the “http” in the web site address.
  5. Trick or Link? We all trade and share the best Halloween ideas, jokes, websites, etc. on Facebook, Twitter and IM, but how secure are they? According to AVG, cybercriminals are hijacking genuine links and embedding them with malware so that you’re not only infecting your own computer, but those that click on the links you share. If you don’t have basic protection, be sure to download AVG’s free antivirus.

It is hard to know which sites are truly safe, so it is important to R.I.P. (Rest in Peace) knowing that you and your family can avoid these common, but unsafe practices by being able to identify the trending tricks up a hacker’s sleeve.

Digesting the Thanksgiving Sandwich: Three Tips for Those Parenting Children and Parents During the Holidays

Digesting the Thanksgiving Sandwich: Three Tips for Those Parenting Children and Parents During the Holidays
By Donna Labermeier

Are you a certified member of the “Sandwich Generation?”  Have you been placed in the position of “parenting” your aging parents while raising your own small children? Well, during Thanksgiving usually one of us is elected to be the hostess of the feast, and we all know how stressful and unnerving that day can become!  So in order to keep calm and maintain your sanity, there are 3 very important things you can do to bring peace to your Thanksgiving festivities (without anyone else’s cooperation):

1) Be the Waterfall

Think of yourself as the top of a waterfall.  You are the hostess of the family gathering and the one everyone is looking to for direction in setting the tone for the day. So are you going to cascade over your loved ones feelings of being frantic and overwhelmed or relaxed and comfortable? If you are not calm and centered, the older folks will become cranky and the children will start acting out and misbehaving. Your attitude affects their attitudes.  They feel your energy spilling out over them. If it’s negative energy, you’re going to see a negative outcome. If it’s positive energy, you’re going to see a positive outcome. So slow down, take your time, and set a pace that allows you to enjoy the fact that  your parent(s) are still here and can spend time with you and your children, and vice versa.…next year may be a different story….be thankful!

If you are constantly being bothered by your parents, children and others, the best way to have a peaceful day is to stop caring.  This doesn’t mean you stop caring about the people themselves and their highest good, it means that you stop caring and investing your time in the things that they do.  If we focus too heavily on the things we don’t get back from the people we care about, all of our attention will be on issues of lack. Give to yourself by taking a break from caring about what other people do.  Giving becomes not a depletion, but a circulation of prosperous energy that, as we enrich others, continually enriches us.

Act out Thanksgiving Day in your head at least once in the days leading up to it. Envision your parents and children enjoying each other’s company and everything going smoothly in the living room, while you calmly and joyfully cook in the kitchen and set out the food in the dining room.  Use as much detail as possible, and it will become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

2) Stop Seeking Approval

Everything does NOT have to be perfect! It is no one else’s business to approve what we do and how we do it…including your parents.  You are an adult with your own household. You are in charge! You are no longer a child. You are not your parents. You are your own true self. You are free to make your own choices and decisions. Seeking approval from them gets us into all kinds of trouble. We agree to do things we don’t want to do out of the fear that they may disapprove of us if we say, “No.” The joke is, they more than likely will never approve of a lot of things we do anyway that we don’t even realize, and they’re too busy seeking their own approval from you! So don’t give your “power” away to your parents or your children or anyone else, for that matter.  Remember that you are always in the right place at the right time doing the right thing.

Don’t think about the past…you cannot change it, but you can change its effect on the present. We may be clinging to childhood beliefs or experiences that are no longer relevant to our lives or our destinies. We may have old wounds, but we are not prisoners of our pasts, slaves of our memories. We are free at any time to discard those belief systems and behavior patterns that belong to another place and time.

 3) Trust in Yourself

Reserve the issue of trust for your relationship with yourself.  Use your relationships with other people to teach you about love, honesty, growth, integrity and nonattachment.  Trusting others is great in theory, but it’s almost impossible to put into practice. Why? Because most of the time we trust people only when they do exactly what we want them to do. When they act otherwise, we feel disappointed and think they can no longer be trusted. But true trust is not about relying on others to meet our expectations. True trust means learning to rely on ourselves instead, which will help us to accept others for who they are, not for who we want them to be.

Recognize who you are within. Be true to you above all others first and foremost. If we treat ourselves with kindness and compassion, then we will treat others that way, too. It is all very simple, yet very important.
During Autumn, view yourself as a leaf….sometimes we’re vibrant and colorful, sometimes we fall and hit the ground, but we always bloom and grow and start anew.  So be still and let the wind carry you in whatever direction it wants you to go, and you will have great peace in your life.

Donna Labermeier, a graceful member of the sandwich generation, bowed out of the corporate world in 2003 when her family needed her more than the banking community.  She now runs a successful, happy home which includes two beautiful children and continues to be a professional student of life.  Though she has studied spiritual development and energy healing for several years now, she received her Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.  The Healers, her first novel, is a result of Labermeier’s own healing and personal transformation.
The Healers can be purchased at Amazon.com as an eBook and paperback, onBarnesandNoble.com as an ebook and on TheHealers website.
