Book Review - Little Visits to Jesus

About the Book
Moms with young children are often consumed with dishes, diapers, and errands galore. But with Little Visits with Jesus, daily devotions can easily fit into hectic family schedules.

A timeless classic for next-gen families, Little Visits with Jesus continues to help build strong biblical foundations and nurture faith in children ages four to seven.

Award-winning educator and parenting specialist, Dr. Mary Manz Simon, is a mother of three who authored each of the 240 “Jesus times” with thoughtful inclusion of a Bible verse, life-related devotion and prayer suggestion.

"Little Visits with Jesus is all about connecting with loved ones and with Jesus Christ. A focus on these timeless truths helps even digital kids develop a spiritual foundation for life," Dr. Mary Manz Simon said.

The special twenty-five anniversary edition features the complete text of Simon’s classic devotionals, a full-color hardback cover, ribbon bookmark, topical and Scripture indices, and a presentation page perfect for gifting.

“The topical index, from ‘airport’ to ‘zoo,’ is convenient for parents who want to address a specific issue,” Dr. Simon said. “The Scripture index invites Christian educators to match devotions to curriculum elements and specific Bible stories.”

Dr. Simon’s advice on everyday issues resonates with parents through the trusted Little Visits series, the Hear Me Read series, her pop-culture parenting blog, and her radio program Front Porch Parenting.

About the Author
Are you buried in diapers, carpools and spelling lists?

I was, after having three children in 3 1/2 years. I loved being a mom -- and still do, even though my children are grown. I admit, though, that mothering is challenging. I know what it's like to be awakened in the middle of the night (every night) and to bathe with a young audience peering over the tub. The issues you face today are deeply ingrained in my memory.

I earned a doctorate in education, but it's the Mommy Zone experiences that are nearest to my heart. Perhaps that's why I care so much about children and their families.

I would love to support and encourage you as your child grows up -- and as you both grow in your relationship with God.

My Take on the Book
Dr. Simon has written a book specifically for young children. She feels it is extremely important to have "Jesus time" everyday. The book is set up in brief devotions using a story. There are twenty stories to use each month of the year.

Dr. Simon encourages the adult to make each devotional personal to the child: such as using the child's name. Allow the child to respond and encourage conversation.

I would like to share a few: Page 37: A BAND AID DAY A child appears to have a difficult day. Many things went wrong but at the end of the day the child was able to thank God for something positive.

Page 180: LOVE ONE ANOTHER~~~ John15:12-13
If you received a letter from Jesus what would it say? Of course the most important message will be that Jesus loves you.

Each entry is directed to the young child. Each entry is accompanied by scripture.

If you are a Christian and you are looking for something to help your child to connect with Jesus and the love he has for you and your child, I feel this book is one avenue for you to explore. It is a gift of time you can give your little one with you and Jesus.
