Book Review - My Bonus Mom

About the Book
What if the word “step” was changed to “bonus?” That easy and brilliant word change empowers the child of divorce with an entirely different feeling!

That word came from Tami Butcher, who offers a perspective from her own experience in her new easy to read children's book, "My Bonus Mom."

The book, geared towards younger children, is based on Tami's own experiences as a child. She captures the emotions children may experience as they deal with divorce and adjust to remarriage. The children work through their feelings of dismay, fear and anger, and grow to love dad's new wife, whom they come to think of as their bonus mom. www.mybonusmombook.com

“I loved my stepmom so much, I always felt that calling her a “step” mom did not do her justice. My mom loved her too and was thankful that she could be there when she could not. I would like to take away that negative term so many movies and fairytales portray."

Tami can give your readers tips on how to create schedules that are not overwhelming, that really focus on helping the child / children, and promotes keeping the lines of communication open with the ex, so that parents can focus on the child instead of the dynamics between each other after the divorce.

My Take on the Book
What I liked about this is that it shows kids that even though their parents may have gotten a divorce that a step-parent can be fun and a great new addition to a family. As anyone that has gone through divorce knows, this is something that can easily tear apart a family, and if you have younger children any resources that you can find is a positive thing when it comes to helping your children cope, especially if and when you find someone new in your life. This is that resource and it is one that will aid any child in understanding what it means to have a step-parent in the long run. A great book that I would recommend to any that are currently dealing with the addition of a step-parent into a family!
