About the Book
Many know the story of Helen Keller's journey to learn to communicate. And many have heard of Anne Sullivan, the brilliant teacher who helped Helen understand. But have you ever heard about Belle the dog? In this new picture book biography of Helen Keller's early life, readers are introduced to her beloved dog, Belle, who is with Helen every step of the way!

My Take on the Book
Holly M. Barry wrote a beautiful picture book about Helen Keller. She gives the reader background about Helen and how she became blind and when Anne Sullivan came into Helen's life to help her speak, read, and write.

Helen Keller was an amazing woman and set the precedent for the education of those who had sight and hearing challenges. Helen's life teachs children that you can overcome challenges in your life.

Holly introduces us to Belle, Helen's dog. Belle went everywhere with Helen and Helen often used Belle's paw to "spell out" words in sign language. As Helen grew older, went to school, and moved away from home, she had many other canine companions. She loved dogs and the people she met knew that and often gave dogs to her.

This is a story that I recommend parents read to their children.
